ETHICS

Ethical usage statement

Remote access is powerful. Misuse harms real people.

  • Never allow strangers or unverified callers to control your computer. Tech support scams rely on remote tools.
  • End any session immediately if you do not recognize the person connecting or did not request help.
  • Do not use TeamViewer to access systems you do not own or lack written permission to administer.
  • Inform the person at the other end before viewing their screen or transferring files.
  • Disable unattended access on machines you no longer need to reach remotely.
TRANSPARENCY

Source transparency

TeamViewer is proprietary closed-source software. You cannot review the full codebase. Transparency instead comes from published security documentation, independent audits, and checksum verification.

What is published

Encryption standards (AES 256-bit, RSA 4096), compliance certifications (ISO 27001, SOC 2), and Trust Center security bulletins.

What is not open

Application source code, relay server implementations, and proprietary protocol details remain closed.

What you can verify

SHA256 hash of the installer you download. Compare against values on our download page.

SECURITY

No-malware clarification

Legitimate TeamViewer installers from verified sources are not malware. Independent scans report clean results: Softonic listed a VirusTotal score of 100/100 (clean) for package 15.78.4 on June 23, 2026, with no virus, spyware, or malware detected.

Antivirus heuristics may still flag remote access tools because their behavior resembles riskware. That is different from a trojan bundled with a fake installer. Always:

  1. 1 Download only after verifying the distributor.
  2. 2 Check SHA256 before running the EXE.
  3. 3 Reject cracked, repacked, or “portable” builds from unknown forums.

TeamViewer publishes enterprise adoption metrics. BitSight ranks the company in the top 1% of tech firms for security performance.
